To mark International Internet Day 2026, the Center for Applied Informatics Studies at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG), the entity responsible for managing the .gt domain name registry, organized Digital Days 2026. This event established itself as a strategic space for learning and reflection on the development and evolution of digital presence in the country.

First Session: .gt Domains and Establishing Your Own Digital Presence

The opening session focused on the strategic relevance of .gt domain names and the best practices for choosing a digital identity aligned with business, entrepreneurship, or institutional project goals. Throughout the session, speakers emphasized the critical importance of building an independent, self-owned digital infrastructure on the internet, thereby mitigating an exclusive reliance on third-party social media platforms.

Second Session: From Domain to Website

The second session covered the essential technical services required to effectively link, configure, and publish a .gt domain, ensuring global visibility for online projects. The core objective was to democratize these technical concepts and make them accessible to all participants, equipping them with a basic, actionable methodological framework that could be executed directly or in coordination with their technical teams.

During the practical demonstration, the process of transforming a domain into a functional website was detailed through the coordinated deployment of three fundamental pillars:

  • Formal domain name registration.
  • Web hosting services.
  • The correct implementation of DNS configuration.

For the live demonstration, Canva was used as the content management ecosystem and Cloudflare for DNS orchestration, illustrating step-by-step how to integrate TXT, A, and CNAME records to successfully link the domain to the hosting server.

Closing Keynote: From the Internet to Artificial Intelligence

IAAs the crowning event of Digital Days 2026, Engineer Luis R. Furlán delivered the keynote address titled “From the Internet to Artificial Intelligence.” His presentation offered an invaluable look back at the global origins of the network and the establishment of Guatemala’s first internet connection a major technological milestone achieved exactly 35 years ago. As a key figure in this achievement, Engineer Furlán shared the details of the cross-sector collaborative effort that opened the doors of the digital era for the country.

Since that historic event, Guatemala has undergone profound transformations in its productivity models, communication, and access to knowledge. Today, in the face of the rapid acceleration and rollout of Artificial Intelligence, Universidad del Valle de Guatemala reaffirms its historic commitment, leading the promotion, research, and responsible adoption of these cutting-edge technologies for national development.
